Press Release - “From Hazard Management to Operational Resilience″
2nd OPTICS Expert Workshop Report

The 2nd OPTICS workshop “From Hazard Management to Operational Resilience” has been held on April 28-29, 2015 in Toulouse, France at ONERA premises.

This event consisted of a 2-day workshop focussed on Air Vehicle Operations and Traffic Management, giving the chance to contribute to identifying the priorities in the European aviation safety research agenda in four key aviation safety areas:

  • Weather
  • RPAS/UAS
  • Data and Safety Intelligence
  • Self-healing systems

More than 60 experts from 36 aviation organisations, coming from a dozen European countries, participated in this workshop to answer the following questions:

  • What are the current aviation safety research hot topics?
  • Where are the research gaps?
  • Are there solutions and innovative approaches that could already advance safety in these areas?
  • What are the strategic research avenues for European aviation safety research?

A total of nine workshops took place during the 2-day event, resulting in prioritised research ideas for each area. These are now being processed, and a report will be issued via the OPTICS website at the end of May. The four keynote presentations (from Airbus, NASA, EUROCONTROL and EASA) can be found here.

We would like to give our sincere thanks to all those who participated in this event, and will contact each of you as soon as the report is available.
