Press release - “Aviation Safety Research and Innovation: time to take-off!”

The OPTICS dissemination event “Aviation Safety Research and Innovation: time to take-off!” was held on December 17-18, 2014 in Brussels, at the European Commission Headquarters.

The event consisted of a 2-day conference.

  • The first day was devoted to reviewing the Safety Research and Innovation (R&I) priorities in Aviation, as seen by a number of key stakeholders including the European Commission, EASA, SESAR, EREA, FAA, Airlines and Airframe Manufacturers. It also raised awareness of OPTICS amongst EC institutions, policy makers and the wider aviation community. First conclusions of the OPTICS assessment of FP7 Aviation Safety R&I Projects were presented.
  • The second day was dedicated to raising awareness of the impact of key safety R&I projects, and to fostering awareness of OPTICS and its methodology and metrics in the scientific community, presenting alongside other CSAs.

This event was an opportunity to discuss Safety R&I priorities with other key experts and decision-makers,  and to influence future strategic priorities of the EC and ACARE.
