The
first OPTICS Workshop was held in EUROCONTROL, Brussels, on Thursday the
3rd of July 2014, on the subject of
Human Factors, which is key to delivering a safe aviation system.
During the workshop, 77 experts from 17 countries helped to:
- Confirm challenges, assess progress and identify gaps in human factors research dedicated to aviation safety;
- Identify smart solutions and priorities for innovation in human factors and its application to aviation safety;
- Offer conclusions and advice upon strategic avenues for human factors research and innovation.
This workshop was an opportunity for focused discussions amongst key experts across all sectors of aviation, and the results will help to influence future strategic priorities of the EC and ACARE.
The preliminary report on the workshop can be found here, as well as the slides from the keynote speaker, Kathy Abbott, Chief Scientist on Cockpit Human Factors for the FAA. A fuller report will be posted on this website in early September.
